Training Overview Dynamic Education And Learning (DEAL) is designed for public health professionals who want to elevate the quality of the distance-based trainings they develop and deliver. The series covers training planning, promotion, implementation and evaluation. Although much of the content is developed with distance-based training in mind, many concepts can also be applied in in-person trainings as well. Learners can register for any or all of the five sessions. Session 2 covers how to define and learn about a target audience, develop learning objectives, create appealing titles and descriptions, and ways to promote training offerings. Session 3 covers technology tools and the selection of appropriate strategies and technologies for teaching and assessment. Session 4 covers webinars and interactive slideshows, and discusses the value of interaction in adult learning and how technology can be used to engage learners. Session 5 covers methods of evaluation, Kirkpatrick’s levels of evaluation, effective survey questions, and strategies of data collection. This recording is approximately 90 minutes. About the Trainer Melissa (Moose) Alperin, EdD, MPH, MCHES Melissa Alperin, more commonly known by her nickname, Moose, has a long history of serving in leadership roles for numerous workforce development and public health practice initiatives. Currently, she is the PI and Director of the HRSA-funded Region IV Public Health Training Center (PHTC). Moose is also the Director of the Executive MPH (EMPH) program which is the distance-based MPH program at the Rollins School of Public Health, Emory University. She has taught in the EMPH program since 2001 using a blended approach of asynchronous and synchronous methodologies, and since 2008, has served as the program’s director. Additionally, she holds a faculty appointment in the Department of Behavioral, Social and Health Education Sciences at Rollins. About the Trainer Hilary Merlin, MEd Hilary is the Professional Development Specialist at the National Association of Chronic Disease Directors (NACDD). She earned her MEd in Health Promotion and Behavior from the University of Georgia and her BA in Community Studies from the University of California at Santa Cruz. From 2016-2021, Hilary was the Training and Communications Specialist with the Region IV Public Health Training Center (R-IV PHTC), where she produced in-person and online professional development workshops for the public health workforce throughout the Southeast and managed region-wide communications activities, including the R-IV PHTC newsletter, website and email marketing. About the Trainer Lisa McCormick, DrPH, MPH Lisa McCormick, DrPH, MPH serves as the Evaluator for the R-IVPHTC and holds the positions of professor in the Department of Environmental Health Sciences and associate dean for public health practice at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB)School of Public Health. Prior to the formation of the Region IV PHTC, Lisa was PI of the Alabama PHTC (2010 -2014) and involved with the South Central Public Health Workforce Development Partnership (2002 –2014).Through her work with the PHTC, she has worked with state and local public health departments throughout Region IV and the R-IV PHTC Community-based Training partners to carry out training needs assessment and evaluation. Matthew Fifolt, PhD Matthew Fifolt, PhD is an Associate Professor in the Department of Health Policy and Organization at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Public Health (UAB-SOPH). Dr. Fifolt holds a PhD in educational leadership from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) and University of Alabama; a master’s degree in education from the University of South Carolina; and a bachelor’s degree from Valparaiso University. Prior to joining the faculty of UAB-SOPH, Dr. Fifolt served as the Associate Director of the Evaluation and Assessment Unit in the Center for the Study of Community Health at UAB. In this role, he was responsible for program and outcomes evaluation for the cooperative agreements funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), and the National Institutes of Health (NIH)/National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHHD).
