Protecting the Public from Mosquito-borne Illnesses: The Zika Challenge (On-demand webinar)

Training Overview

On March 25, 2016 Beth P. Bell, MD, MPH, Director of CDC’s National Center for Emerging and Zoonotic Infectious Diseases, discussed the latest research findings about the current Zika outbreak and provided an overview of how health officials and health care providers can protect the public’s health from Zika virus infection. Dr. Bell also described prevention messages targeting the public and special groups such as pregnant women and travelers, and she identified credible resources that health officials and health care providers can use to train staff and educate the community about Zika and other mosquito-borne illnesses. 

The course contains two modules: a content module and a resources and evaluation module. After accessing both modules, learners will earn a certificate of completion. When the certificate is available, learners will see a Certificate button on their dashboard.

This recording is approximately 90 minutes. There are no prerequisites. Participants will need a broadband internet connection (Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox are preferred browsers) and computer speakers. For technical support, please contact emoryphtc@emory.edu.

About the Trainer

Beth P. Bell, MD, MPH, is the director of the National Center for Emerging and Zoonotic Infectious Diseases (NCEZID), Office of Infectious Disease, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. She provides leadership for the prevention and control of a broad spectrum of infectious diseases, including rare but deadly diseases like Ebola and anthrax, and more common conditions like foodborne diseases and healthcare-associated and antibiotic-resistant infections. In addition, Dr. Bell provides oversight for a diverse portfolio of science-based programs that promote water safety, global health and the health of migrating populations, and the identification and control of diseases transmitted by animals and insects. She is responsible for providing leadership and direction for NCEZID's world-class laboratories, which are developing new tests, vaccines, and next-generation sequencing to enable faster diagnosis and more effective prevention and control of infectious diseases.
