Description

Program Evaluation Skills for Public Health Practitioners

Note: This workshop has limited capacity. This is an online, interactive workshop on December 10, 2025, from 8:50 am - 12 pm ET. Participants will use Zoom to join with both video and audio. This workshop is sponsored by The Region IV Public Health Training Center.

Training Description:

This introductory-level workshop provides public health practitioners with essential program evaluation skills. The course begins with an overview of the CDC’s updated Six-Step Framework for Evaluation, and the ways that it differs from the previous framework. We will cover logic models, ways to employ logic models for program planning and evaluation, and strategies for choosing evaluation measures and data collection methods based on your specific program and evaluation goals.  At the completion of the course, participation should be able to constructively contribute to the design and implementation of public health program evaluations.

About the Trainer:

Amy Patterson (PhD, MHS) is a global health practitioner and social behavioral scientist with 20 years of experience in program evaluation, routine surveillance and mixed methods research. She has conducted evaluation research for Save the Children, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, USAID, The Carter Center, Global Dialogues, Culture Connect and the DeKalb Public Health. She is an active member of the Atlanta Area Evaluation Association's Pro Bono Program and, in that role, serves as an evaluation mentor for teams that develop evaluation materials for local organizations. She earned a BA in English and Biology from Williams College, a MHS in International Health from Johns Hopkins University, and a PhD in Behavioral Science and Health Education from Emory University. She is an Associate Professor and Chair of the Public Health Department at Agnes Scott College.
